WhatsApp Business API

Can I move my WhatsApp Business API number to another provider?

Updated

Short answer

Yes, a WhatsApp Business API number can move to another provider because the business owns its WhatsApp Business Account and number. Through Meta's partner migration flow, the number keeps its display name, quality rating, messaging limits and Official Business Account status. Approved templates with high quality are copied, and Meta says messaging continues without interruption.

Before you start

  • Two-step verification must be disabled on the number, by you or your current provider.
  • The display name must be approved, with no pending name change.
  • Your business portfolio must be verified and your existing WABA approved with a valid payment method.

Migration steps

Templates cannot be used until their copy finishes, which is why the new provider migrates templates before registering the number. Moving a whole WABA instead follows a separate Meta process tied to credit-line sharing at the start of a month.

  1. Ask the current provider to disable two-step verification, or do it in WhatsApp Manager.
  2. Complete the new provider's Embedded Signup flow with the same number and display name.
  3. The new provider starts template migration, then registers the number on Cloud API and subscribes to webhooks.
  4. Point your own systems to the new provider's API and webhooks.
