Short answer
The WhatsApp green tick is Meta's Official Business Account (OBA) badge, now shown as a blue checkmark. To request it, a business needs an API phone number with business verification, two-step verification, an approved display name, at least 30 days on the platform and policy compliance. Meta decides each request, and meeting the criteria does not guarantee approval.
Meta's eligibility criteria
Meta does not grant OBA status to WhatsApp Business app numbers, employees or test accounts.
- Compliance with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy.
- At least 30 days on the WhatsApp Business Platform.
- A business portfolio verified through Meta Business Verification.
- Two-step verification enabled on the phone number.
- An approved display name.
How to request it
- Complete business verification for your business portfolio.
- Confirm the number's display name is approved and two-step verification is on.
- Submit the request in WhatsApp Manager (the number's profile, Official business account) or through the Official Business Account Status API.
- Wait for Meta's notification; Meta publishes no review time. If rejected, you can submit a new request after 30 days.
Is the badge worth it?
The badge is a trust signal and helps discovery: Meta notes that numbers without OBA status do not appear in in-app search unless the user has saved the number. It does not lower prices or improve delivery. Business verification, which the badge requires, also unlocks higher messaging limits.
