Green tick or blue tick: two routes to the badge
People still say “green tick”, but Meta now shows a blue checkmark next to verified businesses on WhatsApp. How you get it depends on where your number lives.
Numbers on the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API) get the badge as an Official Business Account, or OBA. You request it in WhatsApp Manager and Meta reviews it. Numbers on the WhatsApp Business app get it through Meta Verified for Business, a paid monthly subscription. Meta does not grant OBA status to WhatsApp Business app numbers, employees or test accounts.
- API number: request an Official Business Account in WhatsApp Manager
- WhatsApp Business app: subscribe to Meta Verified in Tools
- Both routes show the same blue checkmark
- Businesses that already had a verified badge keep it, according to WhatsApp's Help Center
Meta's Official Business Account criteria
Meta's developer documentation on Official Business Accounts, updated 19 September 2026, lists five conditions. Meta's Business Help Center adds two practical points: the number must already use the display name you want, and the business must be notable. The Help Center also mentions a record of high-quality messaging with at least 1,000 conversations over 30 consecutive days as an alternative to business verification.
If you meet the criteria but don't see the option in WhatsApp Manager, Meta says to contact your Meta point of contact, your solution provider or Meta Support.
- The business complies with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy
- The business has been registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform for at least 30 days
- The business portfolio that owns the number is verified through Business Verification
- Two-step verification is turned on for the phone number
- The phone number's display name is approved
Notability and press links
Meta grants the Official Business Account to notable businesses, which its Help Center describes as well-known businesses with a substantial presence in news articles from publications with sizable audiences. Meta publishes no minimum number of articles, so the press thresholds in this checker are our own estimate.
Our advice: count only independent news coverage. Paid placements, press releases, sponsored posts, directory listings and your own website aren't independent coverage, so don't rely on them. Paste your links into the checker and it labels each one, then copy a clean numbered list for the request form.
How to request the badge, and what to do after a rejection
In Meta Business Suite, open All tools, then WhatsApp Manager, and select the phone number. Under Profile, find Official business account and click Submit request. Two-step verification must be on before you can submit. Meta notifies you when it has reviewed the request, and it publishes no fixed review time.
If the request is rejected, you can submit a new one after 30 days. Use that time to fix any criterion you missed, align the display name with your website and legal name, and gather stronger news coverage. The downloadable kit includes a 30-day re-apply plan.
Meta Verified for the WhatsApp Business app
On the WhatsApp Business app, the badge comes with Meta Verified, a paid monthly subscription that also includes impersonation protection and in-app support. Plans and prices vary by country and business, and the app shows the plan available to you. If you don't see Meta Verified in Tools, it isn't available to your account yet.
WhatsApp's Help Center says you must be at least 18, use a number in a country where it's offered, have been on the app for some time, have sent a message recently, have a profile name and picture, and not already subscribe through Meta Business Suite. Government and political organisations can't subscribe today. The business name must match your documents. Review can take up to three business days, the payment is refunded if Meta can't verify you, and subscribing doesn't guarantee a badge.
