What is Sub-account?

Child account · Tenant · Client account

Definition

A sub-account is a separate account created under a parent (reseller or enterprise) account on a messaging platform, with its own users, credit, sender IDs, pricing and settings, so each client, brand or department is isolated and billed independently.

Resellers use sub-accounts for each customer; enterprises use them for brands, countries or departments. The parent sees consolidated reporting and controls limits, while each sub-account sees only its own traffic, contacts and invoices.

Typical per-sub-account settings: credit balance and spending cap, rate card, permitted channels and countries, sender IDs and WhatsApp numbers, API credentials, webhook URLs and user roles.

Isolation is also a risk control. If one client is affected by SMS pumping or sends non-compliant content, its sub-account can be capped or suspended without touching others.

Plan naming and ownership early: who can create sub-accounts, who approves sender IDs for them, and how unused credit is handled when a client leaves.

On OmniChannels.ai, multi-tenant sub-accounts each have their own credit, sender IDs, rate card, users and webhooks, with reseller, executive and user roles.
