What is SMS reseller?

Bulk SMS reseller · Messaging reseller

Definition

An SMS reseller buys A2P messaging capacity from a provider at wholesale or discounted rates and sells it to its own customers at retail prices, usually through a branded portal and sub-accounts, earning the margin between the two.

Resellers range from agencies serving local businesses to software companies bundling SMS into their product. They focus on sales, onboarding and support, while the upstream provider supplies connectivity, routing and platform features.

The commercial model is a rate card per country or operator with the reseller's markup, prepaid or postpaid billing, and credit control for each customer (top-ups, caps, suspension). Clear margin reporting matters because SMS prices differ widely by destination.

Responsibilities do not disappear when reselling. Each end customer needs registered sender IDs where required, valid opt-in for promotional traffic and compliant content. A reseller that lets one client send spam can get sender IDs or routes blocked for everyone.

When choosing a provider, check route quality (direct versus grey), sender ID registration support in your markets, white-label options, an API for automating accounts and billing, and whether other channels such as WhatsApp and RCS are available to resell.

OmniChannels.ai supports resellers with wholesale rates, their own retail pricing and per-route markup, a margin view, multi-tenant sub-accounts and a reseller API.
