What is 10DLC?

10-digit long code · A2P 10DLC

Definition

10DLC (10-digit long code) is the US registration scheme that lets businesses send application-to-person text messages from standard local 10-digit numbers after registering their brand and campaigns with The Campaign Registry.

10DLC is a registration scheme, not a number type. A business registers a brand (who it is) and one or more campaigns (what it sends and how people agreed to receive it), then attaches ordinary 10-digit local numbers to the approved campaign. The registration data tells the US mobile carriers who is sending and why, which is how they decide filtering and throughput.

Three roles recur. The brand is the business identity, entered with its legal name, EIN or tax ID and contact details. A campaign is one messaging program, such as appointment reminders, with its own use case, description, sample messages and opt-in method. A Campaign Service Provider (CSP), usually your messaging provider, files both in The Campaign Registry on your behalf.

Reviewers compare the campaign description, sample messages, website and opt-in flow with the CTIA Messaging Principles. Vague descriptions, samples that do not match the use case, a weak call to action or a missing privacy policy are the usual causes of rejection. Brand vetting is an optional extra identity check that can raise throughput, and special use cases need a vetted or operator-approved brand.

Carriers set throughput from the brand and campaign details, not from how many numbers are attached, and unregistered traffic risks filtering or blocking. Our published lead time is 7 to 14 business days, a typical range and not a promise. The alternatives are toll-free numbers and short codes, which have their own verification. OmniChannels.ai's team prepares and files 10DLC registration with you; approval stays with the carriers and registry participants.

Frequently asked questions

Is 10DLC registration mandatory?

For business texting to US mobile numbers over 10-digit local numbers, carriers expect registered traffic, and unregistered traffic risks being filtered or blocked. Toll-free numbers and short codes are the alternatives, each with its own verification or approval. Confirm the current position with your provider.

What is the difference between a brand and a campaign?

A brand is your business identity in The Campaign Registry, including legal name, tax ID and contact details. A campaign is one messaging program under that brand, with a use case, description, sample messages and an opt-in method. One brand can have several campaigns.

How long does 10DLC registration take?

Our published lead time is 7 to 14 business days. That is a typical range, not a promise, because the carriers and registry participants decide and the time varies with the quality of the submission.
