Short answer
A WhatsApp Tech Provider is a software company, approved by Meta, that onboards its own clients to the WhatsApp Business Platform through Embedded Signup. Unlike a Solution Partner (the old BSP label), it has no credit line, so each client adds a payment method and pays Meta directly for messages while the Tech Provider bills only for its own software.
How do the partner types differ?
| Role | Credit line | How clients pay for messages |
|---|---|---|
| Solution Partner (BSP) | Yes, can extend to clients | Via the partner's credit line, invoiced by the partner |
| Tech Provider | No | Client adds a payment method; Meta bills the client |
| Tech Partner | No | As for Tech Providers |
How do you become a Tech Provider?
Meta publishes no fixed time for these reviews, so do not promise clients a go-live date before approval.
- Create the app with the WhatsApp use case and connect a business portfolio.
- Verify your business with Meta.
- Prepare App Review: app settings, a video of a message sent from your app and a video of creating a template.
- Request advanced access to whatsapp_business_messaging and whatsapp_business_management.
- Build and test Embedded Signup, then onboard clients.
Tech Provider or build on a partner?
- Become a Tech Provider when WhatsApp is core to your product and you have engineering capacity.
- Build on a Solution Partner for a lower engineering load and, where offered, one invoice.
- A multi-partner solution lets both share client assets, with charges on the Solution Partner's credit line.
