# WhatsApp Business API Pricing Calculator

Publisher: OmniChannels.ai by BroadNet Technologies

WhatsApp Business API cost is the number of delivered messages in each category multiplied by Meta's rate for the recipient's country. Meta has charged per message, not per conversation, since 1 July 2025. From 1 October 2026 service messages are charged after 1,000 free per business phone number each month, utility messages inside the service window are charged, and messages in a free entry point window opened from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad stay free.

## How to estimate your WhatsApp bill
1. **Pick the recipient country:** Meta prices by the recipient's country calling code. Countries without their own rate fall into a regional market such as Rest of Africa or Other.
2. **Enter monthly volumes:** Add how many marketing, utility, authentication and service messages you expect to deliver each month. Only messages from your business to customers are charged.
3. **Add free messages:** Enter the share of traffic sent in free entry point windows from Click-to-WhatsApp ads and how many business phone numbers answer customers.
4. **Read the breakdown:** See the monthly cost by category, the effective cost per message, what was free and how volume tiers changed the rate, then ask us for a quote.

## How Meta charges for WhatsApp messages

Since 1 July 2025 Meta charges for each delivered message that a business sends to a WhatsApp user. The price depends on two things: the message category and the market, which is set by the recipient's country calling code. Messages that customers send to you are never charged, and a message that is not delivered is not billed.
Templates fall into three categories: marketing for promotions, utility for transactional updates such as order or booking confirmations, and authentication for one-time passcodes. Free-form replies sent inside the 24-hour customer service window are service messages. Since 1 July 2026 there is also a fifth category, Meta Business Agent, for replies powered by Meta's own AI agent platform, billed per token rather than per market; this calculator leaves it out.
- Marketing: the highest rate in almost every market, never volume-tiered
- Utility and authentication: lower rates, with graduated volume tiers per market
- Service: charged at the market's service rate after the monthly free tier
- Rates are in USD per delivered message from Meta's rate card effective 1 October 2026

## What is free on WhatsApp in 2026

Meta lists two cases where it does not charge. First, the free entry point window: when a user messages you from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad on the Android or iOS app and you reply within the customer service window, that reply opens a window that may remain open for up to 7 days. While it is open, marketing, utility, authentication and service messages are all free.
Second, every business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages per month. The allowance does not roll over and resets each month, so Meta charges from the 1,001st service message per number. The calculator assumes each of your numbers uses its full allowance; if one number handles most replies, fewer messages will be free.

## Volume tiers for utility and authentication

Utility and authentication messages have volume tiers. Meta counts charged messages per market and category across every WhatsApp account in your business portfolio, and the count resets each month. When you pass a threshold, only the messages above it get the lower rate: the tiers are graduated, not retroactive. Messages sent free in an entry point window do not count toward the tiers.
For example, 2,000,000 utility messages a month to the United Arab Emirates cost about $29,080: the first 100,000 at $0.0157, the next 900,000 at $0.0149 and the last 1,000,000 at $0.0141. At the list rate the same volume would cost $31,400, so the tiers save about $2,320 a month.

## Worked example: a retailer messaging the UAE

A retailer delivers 20,000 marketing, 30,000 utility, 10,000 authentication and 5,000 service messages a month to customers in the UAE from one phone number. At Meta's rates effective 1 October 2026 that is about $1,152 for marketing, $471 for utility, $157 for authentication and $62.80 for service, because the first 1,000 service messages are free. The total is about $1,843, or $0.0284 per message on average.
If 30% of those utility messages are sent while a customer service window is open, the same traffic would have cost about $1,639 under the rules in force from 1 July 2025 to 30 September 2026, when service and in-window utility messages were free. The October 2026 change adds about $204 a month for this business. If 20% of all traffic came through Click-to-WhatsApp ads, the monthly bill would fall to about $1,471.

## How to keep WhatsApp costs down

The category matters more than the length of the message, so the biggest saving usually comes from using the right one. Meta checks the category of every template, and a template that mixes promotional wording into an order update can be categorised, and charged, as marketing.
OmniChannels.ai passes Meta's rates through at zero markup and shows them as a separate line in your quote, so the figures in this calculator are the Meta part of your bill. Platform and inbox fees are priced separately.
- Keep order, delivery and account updates free of promotional content so they stay in the utility category
- Use Click-to-WhatsApp ads for acquisition: the conversations they start can run free for up to 7 days
- Spread customer care across the phone numbers you already have, since each number gets its own 1,000 free service messages
- Send marketing only to engaged, opted-in contacts; it is the most expensive category in almost every market
- Check each new rate card: Meta may change prices on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October

## WhatsApp pricing FAQ

### How much does a WhatsApp Business API message cost?

It depends on the recipient's country and the category. On Meta's rate card effective 1 October 2026, a marketing message to the UAE costs $0.0576 and a utility, authentication or service message $0.0157. In India marketing is $0.0118 and utility $0.0014. Select a country in the calculator to see its rates.

### Is WhatsApp still charged per conversation?

No. Meta replaced conversation-based pricing with per-message pricing on 1 July 2025. Every delivered template message is charged at its category rate, and from 1 October 2026 service messages are charged per message too, after the monthly free tier.

### Are WhatsApp service messages free?

Not any more. Service messages were free from 1 November 2024 to 30 September 2026. From 1 October 2026 each business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages per month, and Meta charges from the 1,001st. Unused free messages do not roll over.

### What is the free entry point window?

When a user contacts you from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad on the Android or iOS app and you reply within the customer service window, your reply opens a free entry point window that may remain open for up to 7 days. Marketing, utility, authentication and service messages in that window are not charged.

### How do WhatsApp volume tiers work?

Utility and authentication messages get lower rates as monthly volume grows. Meta counts charged messages per market and category across your business portfolio, resets the count each month and applies each tier rate only to the messages within that tier.

### Does OmniChannels.ai add a markup to Meta's rates?

No. WhatsApp messages are charged at Meta's rate with zero markup, shown as a separate line in your quote. Platform and inbox fees are priced separately.

### Which rates does the calculator use?

Meta's published USD rate card effective 1 October 2026. Accounts billed in another currency use Meta's rate card for that currency. The calculator excludes Meta Business Agent messages, authentication-international rates and taxes.
