# Click-to-WhatsApp Ads ROI and Cost Calculator

Canonical: https://omnichannels.ai/tools/click-to-whatsapp-ads-roi-calculator/

The real cost of Click-to-WhatsApp ads is your ad spend plus Meta's message fees, divided by the leads or sales you get. When you reply to an ad chat started on the Android or iOS app within the customer service window, a free entry point window opens that may remain open for up to 7 days. Messages in it are free. Templates sent after it closes are charged at Meta's rate, so reply speed and follow-up volume drive ROI.

## How to calculate Click-to-WhatsApp ads ROI
1. **Set market and spend:** Pick where your customers are, which sets Meta's message rates, then enter your monthly ad budget and either cost per click or cost per conversation started.
2. **Describe your funnel:** Add the share of chats that become qualified leads, how many of those buy, your average order value and how fast you usually reply.
3. **Add WhatsApp messages:** Enter how many messages you send while the free window is open and how many marketing and utility templates follow after it closes.
4. **Compare reply speeds:** Read cost per lead, cost per sale, ROAS and ROI, then see how the same ads perform if you reply instantly with an AI agent.

## What Click-to-WhatsApp ads really cost

Click-to-WhatsApp ads run on Facebook and Instagram and open a WhatsApp chat with your business instead of a landing page. You pay Meta for the ad itself, by click, impression or conversation started depending on how you bid. You may also pay Meta's WhatsApp message fees for the follow-up messages you send.
Comparing campaigns on cost per click alone hides most of the picture. What matters is the total cost of the campaign, meaning ad spend plus message fees plus your inbox and team, divided by the qualified leads and sales it produces.
- Cost per lead = total cost ÷ qualified leads
- Cost per sale = total cost ÷ sales
- ROAS = revenue ÷ ad spend
- ROI = (revenue − total cost) ÷ total cost

## The free entry point window

Meta's pricing page explains that when a WhatsApp user messages you from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad on the Android or iOS app, a customer service window opens. If you reply within it, your reply isn't charged and opens a free entry point window from the moment you respond. That window may remain open for up to 7 days. While it's open, Meta doesn't charge for marketing, utility, authentication or service messages. Meta Business Agent messages are still charged.
Chats that start on WhatsApp desktop or web don't open a free entry point window, so your replies there count as service messages. Since 1 October 2026 each business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, and Meta charges from the 1,001st. Templates you send after the window closes, such as a re-engagement offer or an order update, are charged at the market's category rate.

## Why reply speed changes ROI

A lead who taps a Click-to-WhatsApp ad is often still looking at your competitors. The longer they wait, the more likely they are to buy elsewhere or forget why they wrote. The calculator applies a reply-speed factor to your close rate: 100% of sales for an instant reply, 90% under five minutes, 70% under an hour, 50% the same day and 35% the next day.
These factors are an illustrative assumption, not a benchmark. Measure your own close rate by reply time and adjust. The chart keeps everything else equal, so you can see what answering instantly with an AI agent would be worth before you invest in one.

## Worked example: a retailer advertising in the UAE

A retailer spends $2,000 a month at $0.50 per click. Half of the 4,000 clicks send a message, so there are 2,000 conversations, and 60% of them become qualified leads, giving 1,200. With an instant reply 10% of leads buy at $80. The team usually replies within an hour, so the calculator keeps 70% of those sales: 84 orders worth $6,720.
90% of chats start on the mobile app, so the six messages per chat inside the window are free there. Desktop and web chats send 1,200 service messages, of which 1,000 are free. Two marketing templates and one utility template per chat after the window cost about $262 at UAE rates effective 1 October 2026. The total cost is about $2,265: $1.89 per lead, $26.96 per sale, a ROAS of 3.4× and an ROI of about 197%. With instant replies the same ads would bring 120 orders at $18.87 each.

## How to lower your cost per sale

Most of the gain comes from what happens after the click. Message fees are usually a small share of the total, but slow replies and weak qualification waste the ad spend you've already paid for.
- Answer every ad chat within seconds, using an AI agent that qualifies leads and hands hot ones to a person
- Do your selling inside the free entry point window, which may remain open for up to 7 days
- Send templates after the window only to engaged leads, and keep order updates in the utility category
- Route all ad chats into one shared inbox so no lead waits in a personal phone
- Track cost per sale, not cost per click, when you compare audiences and creatives

## Click-to-WhatsApp ads FAQ

### How much do Click-to-WhatsApp ads cost?

You pay Meta for the ads, by click, impression or conversation started depending on your bid, plus Meta's WhatsApp fees for templates you send after the free window. Ad costs vary widely by country, audience and season, so enter your own cost per click or cost per conversation in the calculator.

### Are WhatsApp messages from Click-to-WhatsApp ads free?

Messages you send in the free entry point window are. When a user messages you from the ad on the Android or iOS app and you reply within the customer service window, a free entry point window opens. It may remain open for up to 7 days. Meta Business Agent messages are still charged.

### How long is the free entry point window?

Meta says the free entry point window may remain open for up to 7 days, starting when you reply. It opens only if you reply within the customer service window, and only for chats started from the Android or iOS app.

### What is a good ROAS for Click-to-WhatsApp ads?

It depends on your margin. A ROAS of 3× means each ad dollar brings $3 of revenue, but whether that's profitable depends on product cost, message fees and team costs. The calculator shows ROI and a break-even close rate based on your total cost.

### Why does reply speed matter so much?

Ad leads cool quickly. The calculator applies an illustrative factor that keeps fewer sales as replies slow down, from 100% for an instant reply to 35% the next day. Replace it with your own data when you have it.

### Which Meta rates does the calculator use?

Meta's published USD rate card effective 1 October 2026, for the market you select: the marketing and utility template rates and the service rate. WhatsApp is charged at Meta's rate with zero markup on OmniChannels.ai.

### Do chats from WhatsApp desktop or web get the free window?

No. Meta opens a free entry point window only for chats started from the Android or iOS app. Replies to desktop and web chats are service messages, free for the first 1,000 a month on each business phone number and charged after that.

### Is this a prediction of my results?

No. It's an estimate based on your inputs and Meta's published rates. The example inputs and the reply-speed factor are placeholders, so replace them with figures from your own campaigns.
