# Shopify + OmniChannels.ai: order updates on WhatsApp and SMS

Canonical: https://omnichannels.ai/integrations/shopify/
Language: en
Publisher: OmniChannels.ai by BroadNet Technologies

**In short:** Shopify can trigger WhatsApp, SMS and RCS messages through OmniChannels.ai for order confirmations, shipping updates, COD checks and abandoned checkout reminders. A Shopify Flow workflow calls our REST API with its Send HTTP request action, where your plan includes it, or a store webhook goes to n8n, Make, Zapier or your own function, which then calls the API. There is no Shopify app to install.

## What you can do

### Order confirmation

When an order is created, send an approved WhatsApp template with the order number and total, or an SMS where the customer has no WhatsApp.

### Shipping and fulfilment updates

When an order is fulfilled, send the carrier and tracking link on WhatsApp, and follow up when it is out for delivery if your shipping app reports that event.

### Cash-on-delivery confirmation

When a COD order is placed, ask the customer on WhatsApp to confirm it. Their reply arrives on your webhook, and your automation tags or cancels the order before it ships.

### Abandoned checkout reminder

When a checkout is abandoned, remind customers who opted in to marketing messages, using an approved WhatsApp marketing template.

### Back in stock and review requests

When an item is restocked, notify customers who asked to be told; a few days after delivery, ask for a product review.

### Ask an AI assistant

An assistant connected to both our MCP server and your Shopify store, through a connector of its own, can find the orders and send the updates after you approve.

> Try asking: "Send a WhatsApp order update to customers whose orders shipped today."

## How it connects

Shopify Flow can call our REST API directly with its Send HTTP request action: set the URL, an Authorization: Bearer header and a JSON body built from the order. This suits single SMS sends, which take JSON. WhatsApp and bulk sends use multipart/form-data, so they usually go through n8n, Make, Zapier or a small function of yours. Check Shopify's current plan details for Flow and the HTTP action.

Without Flow, subscribe to store webhooks such as orders/create or orders/fulfilled. Our API does not accept Shopify's webhook payload as it is, so point the webhook at an automation tool or your own endpoint, which picks the fields it needs and calls our API. Delivery statuses and customer replies come back to the one webhook URL configured on your OmniChannels.ai account.

- Direct: Shopify Flow Send HTTP request action, where your plan includes it
- Indirect: store webhook → n8n, Make, Zapier or your function → our API
- WhatsApp messages outside the 24-hour window need approved templates
- Marketing messages such as abandoned checkout reminders need opt-in
- Statuses and replies arrive on your account's webhook URL

## Set it up

1. **Request API access:** Request test access and receive an API token. Test sends go only to your own verified numbers. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/quickstart/)
2. **Prepare templates and sender IDs:** Get your WhatsApp templates approved, for example order confirmation and shipping update in English and Arabic, and an SMS sender ID approved for each destination country. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/whatsapp/)
3. **Choose the trigger:** Create a Shopify Flow workflow on the order or fulfilment trigger, or subscribe a store webhook to the event and point it at your automation tool or endpoint.
4. **Call the API:** Send the request with your token in the Authorization header, mapping the customer's phone number and order fields into the body. Use JSON for single SMS and multipart for WhatsApp. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/zapier-make-webhooks/)
5. **Track delivery and replies:** Have your team or account admin set your webhook URL, then use delivery statuses and COD replies to update the order. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/webhooks/)
6. **Test with your own number:** Place a test order with your verified number and check the message and its delivery status.

## Example workflow

Shopify order event (Order created, fulfilled or checkout abandoned) → Flow, n8n, Make or Zapier (Maps order fields and sends an HTTP request) → OmniChannels.ai API (Sends the template or SMS with your token) → Customer's phone (WhatsApp, SMS or RCS order update) → Status and replies (Delivery status and COD answers go to your webhook)

## Questions

### Is there an official OmniChannels.ai app for Shopify?

No. You connect through Shopify's own features: a Shopify Flow workflow with the Send HTTP request action, or a store webhook sent to an automation tool or your own code, which then calls our API.

### Can Shopify Flow send WhatsApp templates directly?

Flow's HTTP action is well suited to JSON requests such as a single SMS. WhatsApp sends use multipart/form-data, so most stores route them through n8n, Make, Zapier or a small function. Check Shopify's current plan details for Flow's HTTP action.

### How do COD confirmations work?

You send an approved WhatsApp template asking the customer to confirm the order. Their reply arrives as an inbound message on your account's webhook, and your automation updates or tags the order in Shopify through Shopify's own API.

### Can I send abandoned checkout reminders on WhatsApp?

Yes, to customers who opted in to marketing messages, using an approved WhatsApp marketing template. Meta sets the rules and pricing for marketing templates, so check its current policy for your markets.
