# Odoo + OmniChannels.ai: message customers from automation rules

Canonical: https://omnichannels.ai/integrations/odoo/
Language: en
Publisher: OmniChannels.ai by BroadNet Technologies

**In short:** Odoo can send WhatsApp and SMS through OmniChannels.ai from its automation rules. In recent versions, a Send Webhook Notification action posts record data to n8n, Make or your endpoint, which calls our REST API with your Bearer token. Delivery statuses come back through our webhook to the same tool, which updates Odoo through an On webhook rule or the API. There is no Odoo Apps module.

Connect via API & webhooks

## What you can do

### Follow up new leads

When a CRM lead is created, an automation rule hands it to your automation tool, which sends an SMS or WhatsApp template if the contact opted in.

### Remind customers about visits

A time-based rule on a calendar event, field service task or appointment sends a reminder before the visit.

### Message on opportunity stage changes

When an opportunity moves to a stage such as won, message the customer with the next step.

### Send renewal reminders

A time-based rule on a subscription or contract end date sends an approved WhatsApp template ahead of renewal.

### Log statuses and replies in the chatter

Your automation tool receives statuses and inbound replies from our webhook and posts them as a note on the matching record.

## How it connects

Odoo's automation rules start from record events or dates. Recent versions (Odoo 17 and later; check yours) include a Send Webhook Notification action that posts selected fields to a URL. It does not let you shape the request the way our API expects, so point it at n8n, Make or a small function of yours, which builds the request and calls our API with the Authorization: Bearer header. On self-hosted Odoo or Odoo.sh, a custom module can call the API directly instead.

For the way back, our platform posts delivery statuses and inbound messages to the one webhook URL on your account. Route them to the same automation tool, which can update Odoo through its external API, or call a rule that uses the On webhook trigger, available in recent Odoo versions, to update the matching record.

- Send: automation rule with Send Webhook Notification, then n8n, Make or your code calls our API
- Alternatives: server actions, or a custom module on self-hosted Odoo or Odoo.sh
- Receive: automation tool, then the Odoo API or an On webhook automation rule
- Store the returned message ID on the record to match statuses later
- Approved WhatsApp templates for business-initiated messages outside the 24-hour window

## Set it up

1. **Request API access:** Request test access and receive an API token. Test sends go only to your own verified numbers. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/authentication/)
2. **Create the automation rule:** In Odoo, open the automation rules (with developer mode or Studio), choose the model and trigger, and add a Send Webhook Notification action with the fields you need.
3. **Receive it in your automation tool:** Point the action at an n8n or Make webhook and check the record fields it sends. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/mcp-n8n/)
4. **Call the OmniChannels.ai API:** Add an HTTP request for POST /sms/sendSms or the channel endpoint with your Bearer token, and save the returned message ID. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/sms/)
5. **Route statuses back to Odoo:** Ask our team to point your account's webhook at the automation tool, then update the record or post a chatter note through the Odoo API. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/webhooks/)
6. **Test with your own number:** Trigger the rule on a test record with your verified number and check the message and the logged status.

## Example workflow

Odoo automation rule (Lead created, stage changed or date reached) → n8n or Make (Receives the webhook and calls our API) → OmniChannels.ai API (Sends the message and returns a message ID) → Customer's phone (WhatsApp template or SMS delivered) → Status back to Odoo (Automation tool updates the record or chatter)

## Questions

### Is there an OmniChannels.ai module in Odoo Apps?

No. You connect through Odoo's own automation rules and webhooks, usually with n8n or Make in between, calling our public REST API with your token.

### Can Odoo call your API without an automation tool?

Odoo's webhook action cannot add the Authorization header or shape the body our API expects. On self-hosted Odoo or Odoo.sh, a custom module can make the call; on Odoo Online, use an automation tool or a small function of yours.

### Which Odoo versions have webhook actions?

The Send Webhook Notification action and On webhook trigger are in recent Odoo versions, from 17 onwards. Check the documentation for your version and edition; older versions need an automation tool polling Odoo or a custom module.

### Can I send in Arabic?

Yes. Messages are Unicode, and you can use approved Arabic WhatsApp templates, filling their variables with fields from the Odoo record.
