# Magento + OmniChannels.ai: order updates on WhatsApp and SMS

Canonical: https://omnichannels.ai/integrations/magento/
Language: en
Publisher: OmniChannels.ai by BroadNet Technologies

**In short:** Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce stores can send WhatsApp, SMS and RCS messages through OmniChannels.ai for order confirmations, shipping updates, COD checks and checkout OTPs. Adobe Commerce can push events through its webhooks or Adobe I/O Events; on Magento Open Source a custom module observer or an extension calls our REST API. There is no Magento extension from us.

Connect via API & webhooks · Connect via MCP

## What you can do

### Order confirmation

When an order is placed, send an approved WhatsApp template with the order number and total, or an SMS where WhatsApp is not available.

### Shipment updates

When a shipment is created, send the carrier and tracking number on WhatsApp.

### Cash-on-delivery confirmation

Ask COD customers on WhatsApp to confirm before dispatch. Their reply arrives on your webhook, and your code updates the order in Magento.

### OTP at checkout or login

A custom module can send a one-time code by SMS or WhatsApp to verify the phone number before checkout or account login.

### Abandoned cart and back in stock

Scheduled jobs can remind opted-in customers about abandoned quotes with an approved marketing template, and notify those who asked when an item is back.

### Ask an AI assistant

An assistant connected to both our MCP server and your Magento store, through a connector of its own, can find the orders and send the updates after you approve.

> Try asking: "Send a WhatsApp order update to customers whose orders shipped today."

## How it connects

On Adobe Commerce, Adobe Commerce webhooks or Adobe I/O Events can send store events, such as order placement or shipment creation, to an endpoint you choose: an automation tool, an App Builder action or your own service, which then calls our REST API. Availability depends on your Adobe Commerce version and setup, so check Adobe's current documentation.

On Magento Open Source, a small custom module with an event observer or a cron job calls our API from PHP, or a general-purpose webhook extension sends events to n8n, Make or Zapier. Either way the request carries your token in an Authorization: Bearer header: JSON for a single SMS, multipart/form-data for WhatsApp templates.

- Adobe Commerce: webhooks or Adobe I/O Events to your endpoint
- Magento Open Source: a custom module observer, cron job or extension
- Approved WhatsApp templates and marketing opt-in where required
- Keep the API token in configuration, not in code
- Statuses and replies arrive on your account's webhook URL

## Set it up

1. **Request API access:** Request test access and receive an API token. Test sends go only to your own verified numbers. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/quickstart/)
2. **Prepare templates and sender IDs:** Get your WhatsApp templates approved, in English and Arabic if you sell in the Gulf, and an SMS sender ID approved for each destination country. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/whatsapp/)
3. **Choose the event source:** On Adobe Commerce, subscribe to events with Adobe Commerce webhooks or Adobe I/O Events. On Magento Open Source, add an observer in a custom module or install a webhook extension.
4. **Call the API:** Map the telephone from the order address and the order fields, and send the request with your token in the Authorization header. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/sms/)
5. **Track delivery and replies:** Have your team or account admin set your webhook URL, then use delivery statuses and COD replies to update the order. (Guide: https://omnichannels.ai/developers/webhooks/)
6. **Test on staging:** Place a test order on a staging store with your verified number and check the message and its delivery status.

## Example workflow

Magento order event (Order placed or shipment created) → Module, I/O Events or tool (Observer, App Builder action, n8n or Make) → OmniChannels.ai API (Sends the template or SMS with your token) → Customer's phone (WhatsApp, SMS or RCS order update) → Status and replies (Delivery status and COD answers go to your webhook)

## Questions

### Is there an official OmniChannels.ai extension for Magento?

No. You use Magento's and Adobe Commerce's own extension points: event observers in a custom module, Adobe Commerce webhooks or Adobe I/O Events, or a webhook extension sending to an automation tool, which then calls our API.

### Does this work on Magento Open Source?

Yes, through a custom module or an extension that calls our API. Adobe Commerce webhooks and Adobe I/O Events are Adobe Commerce features, so check Adobe's documentation for what your version supports.

### Can I replace Magento's order emails with WhatsApp?

You can send WhatsApp or SMS alongside the emails Magento already sends. Business-initiated WhatsApp messages need approved templates outside the 24-hour customer service window.

### How do I send OTPs at checkout?

A custom module adds the verification step and calls our API to send the code by SMS or WhatsApp. Generate and check the code in your own code, and limit how often it can be requested.
