# Direct operator route

**Definition:** A direct operator route is an SMS connection where the provider has its own agreement and technical link with the destination mobile operator, rather than handing traffic to other intermediaries.

With a direct route, the provider connects to the operator’s SMSC or A2P platform, usually over SMPP, under a commercial agreement. There is one hop between the provider and the network.

Benefits include preserved sender IDs, genuine delivery receipts, predictable latency and a clear escalation path when something fails.

No provider has direct links everywhere. Most combine direct routes in core markets with vetted partner routes elsewhere, so ask which routes are direct for the countries you care about.

BroadNet, the company behind OmniChannels.ai, reports direct connections to more than 1,000 operators and aggregators.
